Wasabi

Shizuoka tea farmers supported their families by growing wasabi (Japanese horseradish) from January to March, when tea farm is closed.
If the timing is right, wasabi harvesting may be possible. Please note that harvesting is not always available.

Shitajimaen 志田島園

We are a small tea farm located in the Kawashima area, almost in the center of the Tamagawa district. The farm has been in existence for seven generations and is mainly engaged in tea cultivation and processing, as well as wasabi cultivation. The tea garden surrounds the house, and the harvested tea is processed at a factory in the house. Everything from cultivation to production is done solely by family members, and making tea with an old-fashioned way.

BIO

Masahiro Sato. Born in Tamagawa area, Aoi Ku, Shizuoka City Graduated from Shizuoka Agricultural High School Graduated from Shizuoka University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Symbiotic Bioscience Certified as a Japanese tea instructor Shizuoka Prefecture tea hand-rolling teacher After graduating from university, he took over his family's tea farming business with the desire to leave behind for the next generation the landscape with tea fields that had been his playground since childhood. In order to solve the contradiction between the high value of mountain tea and the harshness of the tea industry in mountainous areas, he sought out sales channels and improved tea production, and was blessed with many encounters. In response to the requests of those who wanted to see the tea plantations, he planned a tour to show the beauty of tea plantations in mountainous areas and the taste and depth of real tea.
